None! Ab workouts alone don’t create enough of a metabolic response in your body to create fat loss.  If you want to know the absolute best way to lose belly fat then keeping reading…

Most people who have excess fat believe that the answer to having ripped abs is to do abdominal workouts which they believe is going to burn the fat off their abs.

The thing is… they are going about the problem entirely the wrong way! The truth is that you don’t lose stomach fat by doing ab workouts. This is not how to get flat abs.

Allowing all of your exercise time to go to abs exercises is not going to get you to your goals of flat abs any soon.  This workout plan is not the correct way to go about it. These are a few better alternatives to regular abs exercises:If I were to choose an answer as to what the best exercises are for losing belly fat, my answer would include full body exercises such as the following: various forms of squats, lunges, and deadlifts.

If you were to create a workout schedule, one that produces the best results in the least amount of time, these are the kinds of exercises you would be planning around. Making a workout plan around these exercises is a great way to maximize your metabolism which we all know is very important in the burning of fat, much especially belly fat.

Now, this is not to say that you should no longer do any abs exercises at all. Rather this is a reminder to be sure to focus more on full body workouts as your time spent doing these is going to give you faster and more efficient results. In addition, a side-effect of working out using mostly full body multi-joint combo exercises are that you indirectly work your entire midsection even though you are not specifically targeting the abs.

Keep in mind that the most important factor for losing belly fat to see your abs is actually in the nutrition arena. In addition to a well thought out workout plan, you’ll need a well thought out diet.   You have to have a well balanced diet in tune with a well thought out workout plan to get the results you want.  They go hand in hand together.

So for once and for all…  Stop exerting so much of your time focusing on crunches and all those silly worthless “ab contraptions” in your efforts to try to develop pack abs. Put your efforts into something more efficient such as a high intensity full body workout that is highly effective in losing that belly fat. Here are some changes you can start making TODAY which can help you clean up your diet for the long term! Don’t procrastinate start instilling these healthy habits today, get the results that you really want that are going to last for your lifetime. Choose one or two of the following to commit to this week, start changing your nutrition and your life now!

1. Eat breakfast. If you don’t currently eat something for breakfast try to get at least a little something in to start your metabolism for the day, I can’t stress enough how important this is! You’ve heard it before and it is the truth, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

2. Start educating yourself. Read nutrition labels, check out the USDA Nutrition Data Base and look up your favorite foods to find out what you are putting in your body! The more education you have about what you are eating easier making healthy choices will be for you!

3. Portion CONTROL! This is a huge one folks! Many people fall into the trap of thinking, “Oh this is non-fat or ½ the calories, I can eat as much as I want.” Wrong! Don’t overeat with the excuse of “It’s good for me”. I strongly urge you to buy a food scale and start measuring out portion sizes. This is a great way to learn what a portion is, and soon enough you will be able to tell just by looking!

4. Stop eating when you’re full. You don’t have to eat everything on your plate. Pack it up and save it for later

5. Take note of what your “trouble” times are during the day. When do you feel the need to binge or make unhealthy food choices. For many people this tends to happen later in the day or in the evening when they are bored. What can you do to avoid eating during these times? For example if you have a tendency to eat later at night try brushing your teeth right after your last meal. Or preparing yourself some flavored water to sip on or some caffeine free tea, this way you’ll feel like you’re having something without adding consuming calories that you don’t need!

6. Switch to low fat or no fat dairy products. Just by switching from whole milk to skim milk you can save up to 65 calories per serving! Eating dairy is a great way to get in your calcium for the day which will keep your bones strong, when you choose low fat or non fat products you still get the calcium benefit without all the extra calories.

7.Start cutting out the sugars. This is a tough one since a huge majority of people are hooked on sugar. Try using sugar substitutes, Stevia is a natural sweetener that comes in a variety of flavors and adds no extra calories to your food. If you’ve got a sweet tooth try craving it with fruits instead of high calorie and fatty sweets. Remember don’t try to change your diet all in one day. Do you have an unhealthy habit of eating ice cream everyday? Try just cutting back to 2-3 days where you are allowed to have a portion of ice cream. Commit to only eating your ice cream on those days. This way you can resist the urge to binge because you feel deprived!

8. Don’t tell yourself you “can’t” have something. As soon as you tell yourself you can’t have it, that’s what you are going to crave. You can have it, but you have weight and fitness goals that you are determined to meet so you “choose” not to eat it at this time.

9. Start cutting out the fatty foods that you don’t need. This means creamy dressings, oils that you don’t need to add to your foods, butter and other high fat high calories additions to your meals that are sabotaging your progress! Again think small, try going one day without buttering your bread or tell yourself that you can enjoy those extra calories every other day.

10.Eat more fiber! You can get fiber from eating more veggies and also by switching to whole grain pasta and bread products. One of the nice things about a product higher in fiber is that it will fill you up more quickly and keep you full for longer!

One pound of fat is 3500 calories, so in order to lose a pound of fat in a week you need to cut out 3500 calories from what you are eating throughout the week or burn off extra calories through exercise and increased physical activity! Use a Treadmill, Exercise Bike, Elliptical Machine or just go for a jog or walk each day. What can you do TODAY to get you one step closer to your fitness dream?

Alcohol And Exercise

On Friday afternoon after you leave work, you probably think about going out and having a few drinks with friends to relax and wind down.  Even though you may think you deserve to go out and have a few drinks, there are some things that you should certainly keep in mind.

Like any other day, tomorrow is going to be a day for exercise, and since you are exercising on a  regular basis, a few drinks of alcohol won’t really hurt anything, right?  Before you decide to rush out to the local bar, there are a few things below that you should think about before you make your choice about going out to drink some alcohol.

Research has proven that even small amounts of alcohol with increase muscular endurance and the output of strength, although these types of benefits are very short lived.  After 20 minutes or so, the problems will begin to surface.  All of the negative side effects associated with alcohol will easily outweigh any possible benefits that it can have. No matter how you look at it, alcohol is a poison that can really harm your body if you aren’t careful.

The negative side of alcohol can reduce your strength, endurance, aerobic capability, recovery time, ability to metabolize fat, and even your muscle growth as well.  Alcohol will also have an effect on your nervous system and brain.  If you use it long term, you can cause severe deterioration of your central nervous system.   Even with short term use, nerve muscle interaction can be reduced which will result in a loss of strength.

Once alcohol reaches the blood cells, it can and probably will damage them.  With alcohol users, inflammation of the muscle cells is a very common thing.  Over periods of time, some of these cells that have been damaged can die which will result in less functional muscle contractions.  Drinking alcohol will also leave you with more soreness of your muscles after you exercise, which means that it will take you a lot longer to recuperate.

Alcohol will also have many different effects on your heart and circulatory system as well.  When you drink any type of alcohol, you may begin to see a reduction in your endurance capabilities. Anytime you drink, your heat loss will increase, due to the alcohol simulating your blood vessels to dilate.  The loss in heat can cause your muscles to become quite cold, therefore become slower and weaker during your muscle contractions.

Drinking alcohol can also lead to digestive and nutrition problems as well.  Alcohol cause a  release of insulin that will increase the metabolism of glycogen, which spares fat and makes the loss of fat very hard.  Due to alcohol interfering  with the absorption of several key nutrients, you can also become anemic and deficient with B type vitamins. 

Because your liver is the organ that detoxifies alcohol, the more you drink, the harder your liver has to work.  The extra stress alcohol places on your liver can cause serious damage and even destroy some of your liver cells.

Since alcohol is diuretic, drinking large amounts can put a lot of stress on your kidneys as well. During diuretic action, the hormones are secreted. This can lead to heightened water retention and no one who exercises will want this to happen.

If you must drink alcohol, you should do it in moderation and never drink before you exercise, as this will impair your balance, coordination, and also your judgement.  Think about your health and how you exercise – and you may begin to look at things from a whole new prospective.

Alcohol is not a great thing. It is not with popular fad diets, with natural weight loss supplements or simply with Bodybuilding and fitness.
