A few years ago there was a low carb diet craze that was sweeping the planet. The Atkins diet was at the height of its popularity. This was a spectacular achievement for Dr. Atkins whose book was initially labeled as being potentially dangerous when it first came out, and again after his death. Since then almost everyone who goes on a diet starts out by buying high protein and low carb foods. The impact on the diet industry can be felt every where.

Because of the thousands of success stories people started dieting and exercising at record rates. People understood that diets like Atkins and South Beach could help them lose weight, but to keep it off they needed to become more active.

The large food companies are producing more low carb foods and big grocery chains are making more and more shelf space available for these foods. The big food companies that produce low carb foods are continuing to see sales growth at record rates. Low carb diets are so popular that many restaurants now have menu items tailored for these dieters making it easier than ever to stay on the diet.

It should be obvious that a diet is in high demand when fast food restaurants start to add menu items geared toward a specific diet. Other restaurant chains have followed suit and jumped on the low carb meal band wagon too, including Wendy’s, Applebee’s, Boston Market, Chi Chi’s, and Arby’s.

Low carb diets will help to increase your metabolism, but only if you plan to continue the practice as a permanent lifestyle change. If you avoid the bad carbs such as processed, canned, and fried foods then you can definitely increase your metabolism and lose weight with a low carb diet. Try to avoid appetite suppressants and eat small healthy meals often throughout the day. Also be sure to consult your physician before starting any diet.

How Food Can Increase Your Metabolism

How Food Can Increase Your Metabolism

In the minds of most of us metabolism is directly related to losing weight. We use our weight to define our bodies. We use dieting to control our weight. But what we must remember is that dieting is not meant to be a lack of food, but a way to moderate our eating and reduce our intake of food. You should be cautious when considering fad diets such as Atkins, South Beach or the Zone diet. These diets require that you completely give up certain types of food. Once you come off of these diets and resume your normal eating habits you can be assured that most if not all of the weight you lost will eventually come back.

Food is a critical key to boosting your metabolism. If you eat your food in it’s natural form you can use food as a tool to maintain your weight and create the body that you want. When speaking of natural foods I’m talking about eating fruits and vegetables as close to their natural state as possible. This is called raw foods, and it is the best way to get all of the good things that food has to offer. Eating fruit or vegetables that have been canned is not a good idea for weight loss. Canned fruits and vegetables have been essentially stripped of most of their vitamins and minerals. Even worse is that the canning process adds syrups, sugars, and salts to your food. Canning takes a healthy food and turns it into something almost completely unhealthy. Raw uncooked fruits and vegetables are your best choice.

Vegetables are best eaten raw or steamed. Eating vegetables this way ensures that you keep the vitamins and minerals in the food intact. Cooking foods on the stove or in the oven essentially cooks the nutrients right out of them.

Processed foods are probably the worst thing you can ingest if you want to increase your metabolism and lose weight. You should also avoid fried meat and any other fried food entirely. The saturated fats in fried and processed foods are dangerous for your body and devoid of almost any nutrition what-so-ever. Eating right can give your metabolism an incredible boost that just can’t be matched by pills and fad diets.

It is best that you eat small meals 3 times a day. Between meals you may want to also include a small snack. Healthy between meal snacks will aid in increasing your metabolism and keep you from getting hungry until you can eat your next meal. The more that you ingest healthy foods on a daily basis the better your chances of increasing your metabolism substantially.

Eating the proper foods and a good dose of daily exercise will ensure that you get the most from your weight-loss efforts. The combination of good nutrition and personal fitness are an excellent one-two punch for increasing your metabolism naturally.

The Benefits of Alternative Medicine

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

The decision to try alternative methods such as alternative medicine can be a very difficult decision for some people to make. New age methods can seem somewhat unrealistic when it comes to increasing your metabolism. Many herbal remedies have been around for a long time. Many big companies are now actively involved in producing alternative products to meet the growth in consumer demand for these products. This is a real victory for many people who have chosen alternative lifestyles and medical treatments.

For most diseases prevention is by far the best medicine available. Health supplements can help to keep arthritis, skin blemishes, and loss of sight at bay. The supplements can also help to control weight and increase metabolism. Concentrating on good health is simple and effective. You might not know it, but Chiropractors are considered alternative medicine.

Many times it is the ingredients in alternative treatments that are the difference from standard treatments of the pharmaceutical variety. You do not want to introduce toxins into your system without understanding the negative effects. You have to be careful because not everything that is supposed to be good for you is good for you. For example there are some healthy supplements that can actually do more harm than good.

You will find in a lot of instances that natural products can be just as effective and in some case more effective than there man-made counterparts. They generally carry very high concentration of the desired substance and other vitamins and minerals as well. If you are ready to try something new and feel better at the same time then natural medicines and supplements may be for you.

Because of the increased demand for herbs that control metabolism the FDA is now out to regulate every herb in existence. Unfortunately many herbs are now becoming government property and chemicals and additives are being added that may cause damage if taken for a long period of time. If you want to make sure that you are getting a herb in its 100% natural form the best thing to do is to get it in its natural environment.

It is amazing to see that alternative methods of health are becoming more and more popular everyday. It is just a necessity of life. Some of the other alternative methods for doing this is to use hypnotism in order to change the way you function daily and your habits. It really makes sense when you think about it in terms of safety. The best way to increase your metabolism is through proper diet and exercise, but if you are unwilling or unable to do that then alternative medicine can help you.

The Origin Of Hoodia

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Belonging to a flowering plant family, Apocynaceae, Hoodia is one of the 13 species in the family. Often it is mistaken for a cactus because it looks like a cactus but actually it is a stem succulent. It reaches to a meter in height and has large flowers. Its flower has a tan color and has strong smell. They are naturally found in the Namib Desert of Africa spread across the Central Namibia to the southern Angola. Hoodia gordonii, one of the 13 species of Hoodia has been investigated for its use by local inhabitants as an appetite suppressant. Since then Hoodia oodia has been marketed extensively as a weight loss product across the world. The originators of this knowledge are the San Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert. The plant is harvested after it begins to flower which takes five years. The San Bushmen have been using the plant for centuries for various purposes such as indigestion and for the treatment of small infections besides being taken for long hunting trips as an appetite suppressant.

It was in 1937 that a Dutch anthropologist observed that the San Bushmen used Hoodia gordonii. The plant was investigated by the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1977. CSIR succeeded in isolating the principal ingredient that caused the appetite to be suppressed when consumed. This steroidal glycoside was named P57. They obtained patent for P57 in 1996. They had however not recognized San Bushmen as the originators of this knowledge. This was raised by critics and CSIR formally acknowledged the source of this knowledge in 2002. This made the San people eligible for getting a share in the royalties and profits from the marketing of products arising from the use of their knowledge. CSIR licensed P57 in 1995 to Phytopharm who carried out extensive research costing them about $20 million. Phytopharm sub-licensed the rights in 1998 to Pfizer which was worth $21 million. Pfizer later returned the rights to Phytopharm who then entered into a collaborative agreement in marketing with collaborating with Unilever.

When BBC reported on Hoodia in 2003 and later 60 Minutes reported from the fields of Africa in 2004, the fame of Hoodia spread like wildfire. Many products came to be launched by many companies with the claim that it had the original Hoodia as one of its ingredients. The products were marketed in different forms like capsules, liquid tinctures, tablets, syrups, coffee and infusions, diet fruit bars and protein shakes. There are products such as Hoodia Supreme whose genuineness can be checked in the Internet by searching for Hoodia Supreme review.

Hoodia was placed in Appendix II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) making it a plant that is threatened with extinction if its international trade is not regulated. The trade in Hoodia now come under the CITES related certification which also makes it possible to verify its genuineness.

Health Hazards Of Cheap Processed Food

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

It is now well recognized that overweight and obesity problem has emerged as a major health hazard the world over. This condition has been associated with life threatening diseases such as cardiac problems, diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure. Considering that the problem is worldwide, the main cause is the combination of the modern urban lifestyle along with low physical activity. Obesity and overweight conditions are found in the richer countries amongst both the affluent as well as the poorer sections. The condition is also seen amongst the affluent in the poorer countries. The lifestyle and associated with it the kind of food practices that has come to be popularized in the urban setting along with the sedentary life and work, are the main cause of this threatening condition.

There has been a major change in the food that is available and consumed as part of the urban life style. Processed food is fast replacing fresh food. The processed food is cheaper, easily available and easy to prepare. They suit the hectic urban life. The low-cost food, often called junk food, is low in nutritional value. They have a high sugar and fat content besides additives. The poorer section in the richer nations has to resort to eating this low-cost food. Therefore, obesity in the richer nations is an indicator of wealth with good nutrition and less physical activity as well as poverty with bad nutrition. In the case of poorer countries obesity is associated with wealth with good nutrition and less physical activity. Obesity can also be due to eating disorder.

Increasing number of obese population has also led to the expanding market for weight loss program. The market is abuzz with newer and newer products and programs guaranteeing effective weight loss. But all this can be quite confusing to someone on the look out for effective weight loss program. It will help if you are able to assess the cause of your problem, may be from a specialist, and about the weight loss products and programs. The World Wide Web is indeed a major source for information. There are many books that give you information both on the weight loss programs as well as on the problems of obesity as Lose Your Belly Fat, GI Diet and HCG Diet Guide.

But in the long term it is necessary to make changes to the lifestyle. People are becoming more health conscious. Already the market for organically cultivated food is increasing. The ill effects of fast food are well known. Consumer tastes are swinging towards more nutritious food.

5 Easy Ways to Increase Metabolism

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

As a definition metabolism can be described as the measure of how fast we process the food we consume into energy. There are many ways to increase metabolism rapidly with almost instantly noticeable results. With the right methods metabolism can be effortlessly sustained at a high level. Metabolism increase is scientifically proven to improve weight loss and transform your body into a healthier state.

By following these 5 straightforward rules you are easily able to develop your metabolism and gain the healthier and advantageous body you deserve:

  • More frequent meals of less proportion. This allows the stomach to maintain digestion rate all day, resulting in more energy being created from food and many carbohydrates not being stored as fat. You can reach this by simply eating 4-5 smaller meals per day instead of the standard 2 meals at lunch time then dinner.
  • Don't leave large periods of time between each meal. The longer the gap you leave between meals, especially longer ones, the less resourceful your metabolism becomes and the more likely you are to gain weight rather than maintaining a steady, healthy BMI.
  • Incorporating some exercise into your daily life is an excellent way to boost your metabolism. Exercise is proven to burn fat, and hence speed up your metabolic rate - you digest food faster to cope with the energy release and burning of fat.
  • Eat more foods which are rich in fiber. This ensures a healthy digestive system and helps vital minerals and nutrients to enter into the bloodstream.
  • Drinking 3 pints of water a day will keep you hydrated and reduce the amount of toxins in your bloodstream with the potential to cause damage.

IIf you follow this guide closely your metabolic rate really will improve and your body will be in better physical shape than ever before. If you have always had problems with your metabolic rate then perhaps try our subliminal increase metabolism. The power of subliminal messages will rewire your mind to noticably improve your metabolism naturally.

Kick Start Your Metabolism

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

Normal 0

By Jim Nettleton

You probably heard it many times. “I could lose weight if only my metabolism were faster.” Well, it’s true that a high level of metabolism enables your body to burn fat and lose weight faster. So what can we do to kick our metabolism up a notch?

First of all, your metabolism slows due to several factors:

1- Loss of muscle resulting from not enough physical activity

2- The body actually cannibalizes its tissue because too little food energy being consumed

3- Decrease of physical activity that sets in as we age

So let’s develop a plan to get that metabolism back to a positive level:

1 – First and foremost, eat breakfast. It is absolutely true that it is the most important meal of the day. Research shows that people who eat breakfast are generally thinner than those who don’t. Waiting to eat until midday results in metabolism slowing down.

2 – The amount of muscle mass you possess plays a hand in your body’s ability to lose fat, therefore, exercise is a must. Weight training is excellent and should be done at least three times a week. You should be increasing the extent of your workouts steadily.

3 – Here’s one you may not have thought of; spicy foods. Yep, they can increase your metabolism. I happen to love spicy foods, so that one is right up my alley.

4 – This is a no-brainer. Stay away from sugar. Sugar is a big time enemy. It actually enables the body to store fat.

5 – Get more rest. Try to aim for 7 to 8 hours a night.

6 – Plan to make smaller meals. Take a tip from your cat. He or she never gorges. They eat small portions throughout the day. It’s the way we should eat, too.

7 – Drink more water. Water acts as a ‘natural flusher’ by carrying away toxins produced when your body burns fat. Lack of water slows the body’s functions.

8 – Eat regularly. Many skip meals thinking that it will help lose weight, but what it really does is slow down metabolism.

9 – This may be easier said than done in today’s world, but reduce stress. It can release a steroid in your system called cortisol, and that decreases metabolism. Another point is that people who are stressed tend to overeat.

10 – Get fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains into your diet. They’re great energy foods.

Stabilizing your metabolism will go a long way toward letting you reach your ideal body weight. Eat right, get enough rest and exercise and you’re on your way to a healthy metabolism and a healthy body.
