Food that is consumed is converted into energy by the metabolism of the body. It is converted into energy, waste or fat. Food, when taken in excess, not all of it will be converted into energy. What is not converted to energy gets accumulated as fat. If the metabolic rate is slow, even if the food consumed is less, accumulation of fat could result. Fat is accumulated when physical activity is low and energy remains unused. Obesity or overweight results also from certain medical conditions.
Fat burners are also weight loss supplements. These products are not regulated nor do they need a prescription to purchase them. There are some weight loss supplements which have stimulants like xanthines or caffeine. Some others do not contain stimulants of any kind. Some supplements claim to block or burn fat.. There are others which promise fat cell death. Some supplements are advertised as containing carb blockers that can restrain carbohydrate metabolism. There are some who claim to balance the sugar levels. Recent trends indicate that more products declaring to be appetite suppressants are introduced in the market.
There are numerous weight loss products in the market. These include Xenadrine, Zantrex, Nutrex LIPO-6X, Hydroxycut, LIPO-6 by Nutrex, Stacker 2 and Chitosan. The weight loss market is not regulated. There are no compulsions for the manufacturers to prove their claims. Most often, all they need to do when they make tall claims is also say that these claims are not evaluated by the appropriate authority such as the Food and Drug Authority. In the marketplace it is common for each manufacturer to attempt to outdo its competitors which leads to tall claims and sometimes out rightly misleading claims. For instance, you could check up what consumers and reviewers say about a product in the Internet, for instance, by searching Nutrex LIPO-6X reviews for Nutrex LIPO-6X.
However there are avenues to protect the consumer from retailers getting away with unsubstantiated claims. For instance they can approach the Federal Trade Commission in the United States and Health Canada in Canada. However, these institutions find it difficult to monitor the market with numerous products. However, there are instances where such irrational claims have been challenged with consumers launching a class action suit against the company. There are reputed well established companies with a brand image to protect. There is also the fly by night companies. You need to check out on the companies, the product and the claims and be satisfied before you buy the weigh loss supplements.

Overweight and obesity have become so serious a problem across the world that it has now been recognized as a major health problem. Over a billion people all over the world have overweight problems or obesity. Over 60 percent of the adult population in the United States has this condition. It is associated and identified easily with the phenomenon of urbanization in the developed and developing countries. It is associated to the modern lifestyle and dietary practices. Also associated is the sedentary lifestyle. The weight loss market is estimated to be about US$80 billion. Investment in research to find out the causes and ways of weight loss has been going on. While there are many claims, equally are there counter claims. While the debate, often inconclusive as yet, goes on, so too have beliefs and notions about overweight problems and weight loss proliferated. Often some of these popular notions simply do not have any basis.
The immediate response to an overweight problem is to take on a starvation diet or crash diet to burn away the excess fat accumulated. This is based on the firm belief that starvation or near starvation is the best way for weight loss. However, this may seem to work in the beginning. The metabolism goes down but hunger increases. It could also leave one weak and undernourished. It is better not to starve but instead take more number of intakes of lesser quantity of food.
There is a popular belief that carb-free diet will make the unpleasant flab vanish. It is not as though that all carbohydrates are bad. There are good carbohydrates that body needs which make one feel full for a long time. This not only reduces hunger, but keeps away the craving for food. Weight loss requires that the digestion is slow. The insulin is released slowly. Fat in the body is burnt away. Bread digests fast and is an example of bad carbohydrate. Weight loss diets are also available in the market. Some of them are the 7 day diet, Anne Collins Weight Loss Program, The Atkins diet, Negative Calorie Food & Recipes, NutriSystem, Fit Yummy Mummy, Diet Smart and Beverly Hills Diet. You need to check out what suits you based on your needs.
The important thing is to lose weight and to maintain this weight for years. You should find out the reasons why you are overweight. You should also know your food compatibility.

The points system elaborated by the fat loss for everyone weight watcher’s diet is an innovation amongst the losing weight diets and has registered an immense success in Great Britain, Ireland, Australia and United States. The method is flexible, easy to use and can be adapted to many daily schedule. If you want to lose weight 7 days, this is a good method.
If you want to lose weight efficiently and to maintain your figure, it’s not enough just to lose the extra pounds. If you want to register success, you will also have to forget the unhealthy food habits you currently have. You can do this easily with the help of this diet’s effective system.
The fact that this diet can be understood by virtually anyone, it make it a fat loss for everyone method. The whole thing is based on just three rules:
1. A person that wants to follow the diet will be given a number of daily points, depending on his age and sex, medical background, weight, height and so on. These are not the only things that need to be taken into consideration, because the points also take into consideration a person resistance to stress and the resulting irascibility, personality and temperamental issues.
2. Each food has a certain number of points, calculated according to their caloric and fat composition for 100 grams. The fatter the aliment, the more points it gets. The diet takes into consideration the quality of fats one aliment contains, so the ones that have good non-saturated fats will get less point than the rest of fat aliments.
3. Daily excercises or activity can earn you extra eating points for the day. The fact that nothing is fixed and everything depends on you is a great stimulant.
You don’t have to watch what type of things you eat, you just have to add up their points. The dislocated diet and all its derivatives are based on the principle that each food, if consumed individually, will not cause you to gain weight. So, by consuming only a group of aliments at each meal(or during a day, depending of the method chosen) you will manage to lose weight, eating without restrictions and in any quantity.
The weekly diet imposes that you only eat one group of aliments each day (fruits, vegetable, soups and so on). If for example you want to eat chicken, then you will have kitchen the entire day, at breakfast, lunch, dinner, with no additional aliments next to it.
The daily diet means that instead of eating one type of food during the entire day you will have to eat at each meal a different aliment. Because this way you can actually get a bit of balance into your daily diets, it is the most popular option of the method.
This diet is based on the fact that when eating the same food we tend to feel satiety easier. This means that when eating the same things we will be bored very easy with our meal and stop eating earlier. This means we eat less, so we lose weight. It’s clear why we are not allowed to stick to this diet for a very long time because the lack of diversity can cause important lacks and health problems.
In a short time we might register important physique transformations, because we eat very little.
It doesn’t matter if the diet seems pretty balanced, the truth is that eating the aliments separately will trigger a bad assimilation process. The following statements are just a few of the disadvantages of this diet:
- When you finish the diet, we can experience a sudden gain of weight.
- Muscles and internal organs are weakened during the days we consume only fruits of vegetables, because they lack proteins.
-A tiredness sensation will make itself felt.
- The diet is not adapted for an active person.
- There is no way to prove the bases of this diet scientifically because aliments are treated as they come regardless of the way they are eaten.
- Alimentary dislocation can cause growth delays in children.
- The diet is monotonous and hard to follow in the long run.
This is not a healthy diet because it is not diversified. It should not affect general health and never claim any essential nutrients from a day’s diet.

If the BMI is within the range of 25 kg/m2 and 30 kg/m2c, the person is considered to be overweight which is the pre-obese stage. If the BMI is over 30 kg/m2 then the person is obese. There are a number of health problems which are associated with obesity particularly heart disease, certain types of cancer, osteoarthritis and type 2 diabetes. Obesity is a result of a combination of factors such as excessive intake of calories, absence of or very low physical activities, genetic susceptibility, psychiatric reasons and medical reasons.
Though a preventable health problem, the prevalence of the problem in adults and in children amongst all sections of the populations in the developed countries and the more affluent in the developing countries are truly alarming. It has become one of the most serious public health issues in the 21st century. There are a number of ways in which this problem is attempted to be addressed. This includes dieting, physical exercises, medication, dietary supplements, appetite suppressants, anti-obesity drugs, and surgery.
South Africa’s Kalahari Desert is the origin of Hoodia. The versatile San Bushmen consumed Hoodia when they went for hunting which took a number of days. The consumption of Hoodia suppressed their appetite. When this came to light and to the attention of the media, they highlighted this particular use. Very soon there was a rush for Hoodia which was marketed widely in different forms such as Hoodia capsules, Hoodia powder, Hoodia extracts, Hoodia liquid extract , and Hoodia shake.
The vast traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples is a store house of knowledge on medicinal plants. This has been a subject of intense research. Many of them are finding its way into modern application as products for various uses. It is now well recognized that all the traditional communities have a knowledge that is an ecological map of biodiversity of their habitat. The modern world has been making painstaking expeditions to extract this knowledge which often includes enticement and threats ending in biopiracy to a mutually beneficial partnership. Africa is richly endowed with a variety of ecologically diverse regions with rich biodiversity about which there are knowledge accumulated through centuries embedded in the traditions of the local native inhabitants. This knowledge also encompasses knowledge of medicinal plants which now finds its way into modern products to cater for health needs. The cosmeceutical, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries have been eager to dig deep into this treasure house of knowledge, and to bring them out as remedies and treatments for various ailments and health conditions. This Dark Continent has now contributed one more vital piece of knowledge in the form of Hoodia.

There is so much increase in the extent of overweight and obese population that it has emerged as major health problem. It was earlier thought that this is a problem of just the rich. It is now clear that the poor in the affluent countries too are afflicted with this problem. Obesity has spread amongst the affluent in the developing countries. It has become more of an urban phenomenon. It clearly indicates that lifestyles and diet is the major cause of obesity. More carbohydrates are consumed than fat in the affluent countries. Increased consumption of sweetened beverages is the primary source of increased carbohydrate consumption. Consumption of beverages contributes to about a quarter of all daily calories intake in the United States amongst the adult population. It has also been observed that the calorie content in fast food too has been increasing over time. The calorie intake from fast food has increased four times though fast food consumption itself has increased only three times in the last two decades or so. The rise of obesity to epidemic proportion is caused by an increase in the calorie intake of the general population.
There has been a shift from fresh food to processed food. The improved agricultural techniques and support to agriculture in terms of subsidy has lowered the food prices in the United States in such crops as wheat, soy, corn and rice. Production of these food crops has also generally increased. All these have in turn made possible cheap processed food. In comparison, vegetables and fruits are costlier.
Along with the rapid rise in the overweight population, there has also been a growing weight loss market where various weight reduction regimes and prescriptions are available. Combating obesity has also become professionalized. Expenditure on weight loss programs have been increasing in leaps and bounds. The investment in research and search for effective remedies has increased with the high demand. The research has been both into the psychological cause of obesity as well as weight loss remedies. Gould Shrink Yourself for instance explains the emotional basis of over eating.
The weight loss market has plenty of solutions to offer you in the form of physical exercises, diet regimes, drinks and shakes, pills and capsules, fitness centers herbal remedies, and professional experts. If you are on the look out for a remedy, you need to check out all these to decide what is best for you. Seeking professional help will also help you to choose what is best.

A major health problem that has emerged is overweight and obesity. The problem can be overcome with different approaches. Their main causes are the present sedentary lifestyle, the substitution of natural foods with junk food or fast food leading to changed dietary practices and drastic reduction in physical activities. Two Strategies
One safe and fast weight loss diet approach involves looking at ways to decrease the total number of calories consumed in a day. The core of the second approach is to consume more or less the same but get busy by exercising. Both of these approaches will produce weight loss over a period of time. Whatever particular Fast Weight Loss Diet you pick will be dependant on your lifestyle or amount of discipline you have. Let’s take a look at both approaches and the two-prong effect.
Some great Fast Weight Loss diet plans can be found here: healthy diet progams for fast weight loss.
Counting Calories
A fast weight loss diet that involves counting calories has been used by many people successfully. By reducing the number of calories eaten each day the body can be forced to burn fat. Reducing the number of calories consumed in a day is easier than it might seem. Eliminating some condiments from meals can reduce calories easily as well. Another component is not just specifically what foods you eat but how much. Reducing portion sizes will reduce calories and lead to fat loss also.
Burn More Fat
A second fast weight loss diet approach involves increasing fat loss from exercising. Walking or taking the stairs more often are good examples of simple increases in exercise activity. This strategy can be used effectively even if you don’t modify your meals. Perhaps joining a fitness club is more your style than taking this approach, but if a more informal approach is more to your liking then try walking, biking or swimming. Most find this target goal sustainable and achievable. Be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration if you plan on increasing your activity levels.
Check here for the best advice on diet plans for fast safe healthy weight loss.
Two-Prong Approach
The most effective fast weight loss diet strategy will combine both strategies. Through decreasing calories and an increase of burning calories more weight can be lost in a shorter amount of time. This can safely and effectively lead to 8-10 pounds of weight loss per month. Using this strategy you may find times when you are really hungry. The reduction of calories and the increase of exercise should be approached in increments not to exceed 5% per week. Instead of eating 3 large meals they change their [eating] schedule to include six small meals. This is necessary for obtaining safe results.
Safe Dieting
Your expectations of a fast weight loss diet should include consistency no matter which approach you take. Dropping too much weight too quickly can lead to trouble if you are not careful. Some may think so but it is just not the right way to approach fat loss. You should expect to drop no more than 5-8 lbs per month with either strategy. When considering your weight loss, plan for the long-term. This will ensure your body gets adequate nutrition and not engage the starvation mode. If this happens then weight loss will be stopped temporarily. Your success will depend on it.
Some of the easy ways to lose weight fast can be found at fast easy weight loss.

Hoodia gordonii is a succulent plant found in Namibia, Angola, South Africa and Botswana. The San people of Kalahari Desert were found to possess the knowledge of its many uses. They used the plant as an appetite suppressant when they go for hunting which would last a few days. The extracts of this plant was patented by South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 1997. CSIR named the extract P57. CSIR then sold the exclusive rights of P57 to Phytopharm, a British drug company. Phytopharm in turn licensed the right to produce to Pfizer. But Hoodia became internationally well known only after BBC reported on the plant in 2003. Later in 2004, 60 Minutes reported its use as a natural appetite suppressant.
The drug was introduced and sold in the market as a weight loss drug. In all these hype, the San people were simply not considered. When the media confronted Phyotopharm about biopiracy, the company claimed that the San no longer existed. But the San Bushmen lived in the Kalahari Desert part of South Africa and other region where Hoodia is found. CSIR decided to share a portion of their royalty with the San in 2003. The share was estimated to be 0.003% of retail sales. The P57 rights were later returned by Pfizer to Phytopharm who in 2004 licensed it to Unilever. Unilever was also producing such diet foods as Slim Fast. Unilever claimed that it would use Hoodia to introduce functional food products.
Many Hoodia products soon began to flood the burgeoning weight loss market. The products were launched in various forms such as pills, diet food, shake, liquid and capsules. These were launched under various brand names such as Dex-L10 Hoodia, Hoodia Extract, H57 Hoodia, Hoodoba, Hoodia SlimQuick, Hoodia Pure, Hoodia Shake, Tru Hoodia Diet, Hoodia Gordonii Shake Mix, HoodiThin Liquid, Desert Burn and Hoodia Supreme. Invariably the products contained Hoodia along with other useful ingredients. Some of these products are attempting to carve out a niche market. The focus of ads for Slimquick Hoodia is women for instance. It includes calcium, Vitamin D3 and Green Tea in addition to Hoodia
Two additional patents have since been acquired by Phytopharm fro treating gastric disorders. A number of patents have also been filed subsequently. Hoodia, it has been discovered, could be useful for treating a number of other disorders like sexual dysfunction, and the operation of glands such as the prostrate, saliva and sweat glands.
